departure redux
released February 23, 2025 on the stillsounds label
Departure Redux is the seventh release from Nelson Foltz and Tom Lynn, a duo collaboration whose volume of work has been described as "subtly felt, dazzling, and utterly essential" while receiving high praise from musical innovators Laurie Anderson, Maria Schneider, Emil Schult, Pauline Oliveros, and Jon Hassell. Foltz and Lynn create layered, shifting and ever-evolving soundscapes without the use of electronic instruments. The goal is to explore quiet slow music that is organic both in character and origin as an escape from the increasingly rapid pace of modern life.
Their previous release Departure enlisted the collaborative efforts of Juliette Commagere (Puscifer), Gerry Leonard (Bowie), Joachim Cooder (Mavis Staples), Hildegunn Gjedrem (Snarky Puppy), and Dave Cook (Taylor Swift). Departure Redux uses material from these sessions distilled and reimagined into a single minimized atmosphere.
